Sacramento Co. supes essentially ban medical pot shops

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA - Tuesday night, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors passed an amendment to zoning code that basically bars medical marijuana dispensaries in unincorporated areas of the county.

The approved amendment reads: not withstanding any provision of the zoning code, any land use activity or establishment that contravenes state or federal law or both is prohibited.

The dispensing and cultivation of marijuana is illegal under federal law and in recent months, federal law enforcement has cracked down on medical pot shop proprietors.

Supervisors took public comment from proponents and opponents of medical marijuana before voting.

There are seven or eight dispensaries left in unincorporated Sacramento County.
